Advancing hen welfare with Dr. Tina Widowski

Ensuring best practices when it comes to hen health and welfare is at the heart of what Canadian egg farmers do. To inform continuous improvements in animal welfare practices, Egg Farmers of Canada calls on Dr. Tina Widowski, Research Chair in Poultry Welfare at the University of Guelph.

Dr. Widowski and her team have been fundamental in advancing hen welfare while maintaining effective and sustainable production systems. Her body of work includes foundational studies on enriched colony housing systems as well as other production practices.

Investing in an animal care expert such as Dr. Widowski through our Research Chair Network means that the Canadian egg farming industry will continue to strengthen our on-farm practices. Our Research Chair Network focuses specifically on issues and opportunities within the Canadian egg farming industry, helping Canadian egg farmers lead the way to a more sustainable Canadian food system.
