Hunger doesn’t take a vacation

This summer alone more than 950,000 Canadians will turn to a food bank for help. There is a growing need to support community food banks, and for this reason, egg farmers are a proud partner of Food Banks Canada. For more than two decades, egg farmers have donated more than a million eggs a year to community food banks across the country.
Loaves and Fishes Community Food Bank in Nanaimo British Columbia is one example, and they also help ensure that all surrounding area food banks get the supplies they need. “Eggs are great! We just received 1,395 dozen from the Egg Farmers of Canada and these eggs help out the island food banks tremendously!” says Alex Counsell, their Operations Manager.
“They are such a great source of protein, and can be used in a variety of ways when cooking. I know our clients love being able to get fresh eggs, so they really do help our food banks out.”
Egg farmers across Canada work together as a collective to produce fresh, local eggs for Canadians, and are committed to giving back. “Social responsibility is rooted in our traditions as an agricultural industry. Most egg farms in Canada are family-owned and have been operating through several generations. Our farmers are ingrained in, and devoted to their communities,” explains Peter Clarke, Chairman of Egg Farmers of Canada and a fifth generation egg farmer.
Canadian farmers have a passion for this cause and working with Food Banks Canada is such an integral part of Egg Farmers of Canada’s culture—not only do egg farmers work hard to produce a high-quality food for Canadians, they’re also committed to keeping our communities vibrant.

From July 18 to 31 we’re celebrating our longstanding partnership with Food Banks Canada. We’ll be sharing some of the ways Canadian egg farmers support food banks on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag: #Farmers4FoodBanks. Egg Farmers of Canada will donate $1 for each retweet (Twitter) and share (Facebook) to Food Banks Canada, to maximum of $25,000.
