OTTAWA, September 26, 2016 – Egg Farmers of Canada is proud to announce it was awarded the Crystal Egg Award for outstanding commitment to corporate and social responsibility, an international award presented by the International Egg Commission (IEC), yesterday in Kuala Lumpur.
The announcement was made at the IEC’s Global Leadership Conference that brings together egg industry leaders from around the world with the goal of discussing global trends and emerging opportunities in the international egg industry.
“We strive to incorporate social responsibility into all aspects of our organization,” said Peter Clarke, Chairman of Egg Farmers of Canada. “Social responsibility is rooted in our traditions as an agricultural industry. The farmers we represent expect no less of their national organization, because responsibility, integrity and commitment to community are important values in their businesses and lives,” he added.
Egg Farmers of Canada partners with national and international organizations, including Breakfast Club of Canada, Food Banks Canada and the International Egg Foundation. Canadian egg farmers support these initiatives through substantial product donations, fundraising and volunteering, ensuring more people benefit from the essential protein and nutrients in eggs.
“We have the most amazing product—one that’s wholesome, natural and rich in vitamins and protein. By helping more people access the immeasurable benefits of the humble egg, and by finding more efficient ways to produce it, we can change lives,” concluded Clarke.
Egg Farmers of Canada is also committed to a sustainable egg industry through other initiatives. The organization is fostering the next generation of leaders through a national young farmer program and a partnership with the Canadian Young Farmers’ Forum, and investing in research that reduces the environmental footprint of the Canadian egg farming industry.
This is the second time Egg Farmers of Canada is the recipient of the Crystal Egg Award. The prestigious award was also awarded to Canadian egg farmers in 2014.
