New partnership with Osteoporosis Canada shares how eggs support strong and healthy bones
By Egg Farmers of CanadaMaintaining strong and healthy bones is crucial for overall well-being at any age, particularly for those living with osteoporosis. We’re excited to partner with Osteoporosis Canada to spread awareness about the importance of bone health and share how eggs are part of a healthy diet that promotes healthy bones.
Nutrition plays a pivotal role in the treatment and self-management of osteoporosis. A good starting point for bone health nutrition is getting enough high-quality protein, meeting Health Canada’s Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDAs) intake for vitamin D through a variety of calcium-rich foods and taking a vitamin D supplement. Eggs are a versatile ingredient which complements dishes like this Creamy Egg and Squash Risotto. It’s packed with calcium from the dairy, and protein and vitamin D from the eggs; this recipe offers all the essential nutrients that are part of a bone-healthy diet.
In fact, studies have shown that eating eggs has a positive impact on bone density and reduces the risk of osteoporosis or fractures.1 This is because key nutrients for bone health, including calcium, protein and vitamin D, are present in eggs. With 6.5 grams of high-quality protein per large egg, they are an ideal option for promoting bone strength.
Through our partnership, we are offering recipes and tips to help Canadians living with osteoporosis integrate more eggs into their diet. Our initiative includes interactive cooking demos, featuring recipes rich in calcium, protein and other nutrients that are essential for those living with osteoporosis.
